Video Tour of RIBITS Wetland Bank Information Site

For anyone interested in US wetland mitigation banking, the embedded video below is a tour of the US Army Corps of Engineers 'RIBITS' bank information tool. The tour goes through what information can be found on the site, and should be helpful for someone who is already familiar with wetland mitigation banking (need a backgrounder, see this one), but hasn't explored the RIBITS site. Enjoy!

UPDATE: After listening to online conference proceedings from the National Mitigation & Ecosystem Banking Conference, I thought I'd update this RIBITS tour/tutorial with planned enhancements noted by Steve Martin, US Army Corps of Engineers, Institute of Water Resources:

  • Integration of RIBITS with the Corps' internal regulatory tracking database ORM, which would make information on impacts available to the public

  • User-generated reports that could roll up data (don't know specifically what data) by watershed, state, District, or national

  • A tool to translate credits to a common credit currency

  • Functionality to export GIS shapefiles or GoogleEarth kml files

  • Functionality to allow regulators to upload other data layers such as landuse, soils, National Wetlands Inventory

  • Modifying RIBITS for conservation banking

Great idea- should lead to increased efficiency and ultimate cost savings.
